I Am Brooke

One of Brooke’s faithful readers suggested that we post some pictures of her artwork, and I thought it was a great idea.  This was we can digitally capture her artistic development without keeping track of lots of scraps of paper.  Here is something she drew this morning…a butterfly.

Drawing is one of our favorite daily activities. Brooke will draw all kinds of things and will ask me to draw a chair, table, her name, a shoe, Mommy and Daddy, etc. Today we had the most interesting art subject by far…a garbage truck. When I asked Brooke what she was drawing, she told me a garbage truck. Then she asked me to draw one too. So, I proceeded to draw her a garbage truck and some bags of garbage for it to pick up. It was fabulous.

Brooke does a lot of funny things on a daily basis, and part of the reason for starting this blog was to record some of these antics. About a week or two ago, Brooke saw me pull a kitchen chair over to the counter so I could get something out of a top shelf in the cabinet. Ever since then, she has been pulling a chair over to the counter to see what trouble she can find on the kitchen counters (which obviously means the knives need to get moved…like yesterday). Well, the other day she got up there and grabbed an orange, a banana, and an apple from the fruit bowl. She brought them to me and told me she was going to have fruit salad. Thank you, Wiggles.

Well-behaved and demure are two adjectives I would not use to describe Brooke. She is full of life, fire, energy, and spunk. When I went to pick Brooke up from church nursery this morning, her teacher pulled me aside and said she had to tell me something. All I could think was “oh no, what did Brooke do today?” She proceeded to tell me that she was cleaning up blocks and small toys and putting them back in their boxes. Brooke came up to her and said she would help. The teacher had to leave to to change a diaper, and when she came back Brooke had finished picking up all the toys and put them in the correct boxes. She was so pleased and said Brooke could stay all day if she wanted. I think it was one of the most proud moments of my life.

Brooke was lucky enough to have a very special Valentine this year, her Daddy.  He placed a stuffed monkey holding a big monkey balloon outside her door to find when she woke up in the morning.  Brooke loved her new monkey.  He came all around the house today helping her draw, eat breakfast, pick Momma up from school, etc.  He even needed a diaper change, which involved Brooke’s using about a quarter of a container of wipes to clean the monkey before placing a Dora diaper on him.

Today was a typical day in the life of Brooke.  When Brooke saw me dressed for teaching today, she insisted that she also wear tights and a dress today.  She spent the whole day telling us how pretty her dress, shoes, and tights were.  She was very proud of her fancy outfit even though a dress was not necessary for a day of playing at the gym and hanging out at home with Daddy and Bella.

After going to the gym, Brooke decided that Bella looked hungry.  Since Daddy was in the shower and could not help, Brooke decided to take action.  Evidently she knew that Bella did not want her own stinky dog food.  Brooke got out a box of cereal and was feeding Bella cereal when Daddy emerged from the shower.
