Well, Brooke made it through a whole two weeks back at school before getting sick with some fever and vomiting virus. She had to stay home from school for two days, but she is doing much better now.
Today Brooke had her first visit with the dentist. I actually don’t know exactly what happened because I was not in the room with her. Brooke and I had our appointments scheduled at the same time, so I was in the room next to her. I know that they took her into the room, and I could hear her talking to the girls and not causing any problems. When Brooke came back to my room, she said that they brushed her teeth and showed her how to brush and floss. Brooke reported that she did not have any cavities and showed me that she had a Little Mermaid toothbrush and had chosen a blue plastic snake as her prize. Brooke handled it all in stride and was so grown up. We were so proud of her.
All of the fish are now deceased. The second original fish died along with two new ones we brought home. The last fish we brought home were clearly sick from the beginning, and we probably should not have even brought them home. Live and learn. I have vowed that I will not buy fish from that store again, so we are without fish for the next year (there is no other place to get them in town). Some day we will get more fish, but for now Brooke is content to be done with them too. We were sad about the fish but talked about how they are happier in fish heaven because they are not sick and have lots of friends to swim around with them. It was fun having you with us for a while, Poo Poo family, and you will be missed.
Today was Brooke’s first day back at preschool. We love asking her where she goes to school because it is so adorable to listen to her say “Kiddie Kollege”. Being an old pro at school now, Brooke happily grabbed her Buzz backpack and new Spongebob lunch bag and headed out the door to school this morning. She happily got out of the car at carpool and headed off to her new classroom. When we picked her up, she was smiling and telling me about playing on the playground, using the new potty, and all the fun new toys in her room. She is particularly fond of the magnifying glass and toy bugs as well as a baby doll dressed up as a princess. Brooke likes her new teachers and said she loves her new class. She is happy to be back at school with her friends and having fun.
Nearly two months after we first brought her into our home, Brooke’s fish named Little Poo Poo went to fish heaven. I explained to Brooke that even though we were sad she was gone that Little Poo Poo was happier because she was no longer sick and could swim around and be happy. Brooke told me that Jesus and God will take care of Little Poo Poo now. Daddy and Brooke had a little fish funeral for Little Poo Poo while I was gone at school today. Brooke is fine and just wants to know when she is going to get new fish to play with Big Poo Poo.
Over the weekend I took Brooke and Luke to Birmingham for new school shoes. The options in Tuscaloosa are sadly limited, especially when you have a little girl with very skinny feet. So, we went to the mall for shoes, picked out one new toy each at the Disney Store, rode on the merry-go-round, ate lunch in the food court, and headed home. A few days later, Brooke is asking to go back to Birmingham because it is so much fun. She wants to go back to the Disney Store and eat lunch at the mall. Brooke also relayed this request to her Daddy, who started calling her “city girl”. Now Brooke keeps telling me that she is a city girl who likes the cities and wants to go to Birmingham because it is so much fun. I can’t say I disagree, but it is funny to hear it coming out of the mouth of a three year-old.
